Mary Janice "Jan" Sadler Kauffman passed to the spiritual realm Friday, November 30, 2012 at home with her husband of 38 years, Art, lovingly by her side. She fought for many years against enumerable health conditions with grace, courage and optimism. Jan left this world knowing of the many blessings that awaited her beyond this earthly presence. Her love, generosity, strength and endurance have been treasures and inspiration to others who have known her.

Jan's life was filled with care for her family. In addition, she helped reach the glass ceiling for other women when she worked for the Army in Panama running a radio station, and for IBM in a tech writing position formerly held by men both in Austin Texas and in California. Her Bachelor's, in the Philosophy of Science, and Masters, in Counseling, took her far.

Jan lived and traveled in Germany, Italy, and Panama; was a prize-winning poet, an accomplished artist, linguist, and musician. An animal-lover, she also enjoyed photography, amateur radio-astronomy, and science fiction

Jan was born December 24, 1939 in Booneville, Mississippi to David L. and Lillian Sadler. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and her little sister Helen Jill Sadler. She is survived by her loving husband Art, her sisters Joyce Milford and Judy Bunch, son D. Jason Penney, daughter Philyss Samuels Seidenfeld, 9 grandchildren (some of whom preceded and welcomed her) and 1 great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made. Contributions are not required. The love you have shown us in life is precious and gift enough. But if you want, we would ask you consider contributing to one or both of these organizations. Both have been so kind and good to us and both are worthy. Contributions should be made in the name of Jan S Kauffman.
